IMPORTANT NOTICE
As per the Government of India’s fuel policy, all new petrol vehicles sold from April 2025 must be compatible with E20 petrol (20% ethanol + 80% petrol). Using E20 in non-compatible vehicles may lead to engine damage, reduced mileage, and loss of warranty. Always check your car’s E20 compatibility before refuelling.
What is E20 Petrol?
E20 petrol is fuel that has 20% ethanol mixed with 80% petrol. The Government of India announced that E20 will be available across the country by 2025–26.
Why E20 Compatibility Matters
Not all petrol cars can use E20 safely. If your car is not made for E20:
- Mileage may drop.
- Rubber and metal parts in the fuel system can wear faster.
- The manufacturer’s warranty might not cover damage.
How to Check Without the Tool
Even if you have used our checker above, you can confirm by:
- Looking at the fuel cap — many cars print “E20”, “E10” or “Petrol only”.
- Checking the owner’s manual under “Fuel Type”.
- Asking your authorised service centre with your VIN number.
Brands Already E20-Ready
From 2023 onwards, many car makers have made their petrol models ready for E20, including:
Tata, Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Skoda, Volkswagen, Renault, Citroën, MG, Mahindra (petrol models).
From 2025, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota petrol models will also be E20-ready.
Government Timeline
- 2023: E20 fuel introduced in select cities.
- April 2023: Many new petrol models started E20 production.
- April 2025: All new petrol cars sold in India must be E20-ready.
What to Do Next
- If your car is E20-ready: You can fill E20 without worry.
- If not E20-ready: Use E10 or normal petrol to avoid damage.
